Abuja, Nigeria – June 15, 2026 – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu today marked a significant milestone in Nigeria's healthcare landscape by commissioning a comprehensive suite of new and upgraded health infrastructure across all six geopolitical zones of the country. This extensive rollout, described by government officials as the most substantial single-day launch of federal health projects in Nigeria's history, forms a key part of the activities celebrating the third anniversary of his administration.

The flagship commissioning event took place at the Federal Medical Centre, Jabi, Abuja, where President Tinubu inaugurated the Bola Tinubu Specialist Complex. This modern facility is designed for integrated specialist care and includes advanced features such as multiple consulting rooms, state-of-the-art theatre suites, specialized ophthalmology and ENT units, comprehensive laboratory services, a well-stocked pharmacy, VIP wards, and general wards.

Further enhancing the nation's emergency response capabilities, President Tinubu also flagged off the National Emergency Medical Service and Ambulance System (NEMSAS) emergency response fleet from the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare headquarters. This deployment includes innovative transport solutions such as tricycle ambulances and boat ambulances, alongside digital coordination tools and communication equipment supported by the World Bank-backed IMPACT programme. In addition, seventy-nine Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) ambulances were commissioned for federal tertiary health institutions nationwide, aimed at boosting emergency response and reducing operational fuel costs.

Speaking at the events, President Tinubu emphasized the administration's dedication to providing Nigerians with access to high-quality healthcare within the country, stating, "We are determined to give Nigerians the kind of care that, for too long, only those who could travel abroad enjoyed."

The initiative is a testament to the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative, building on efforts that have seen nearly 3,000 primary healthcare centres revitalized and numerous other health facilities upgraded over the past two years.

This nationwide investment signifies a coordinated effort to bolster Nigeria's healthcare system, focusing on emergency response, primary care, and specialized medical services, with collaborations from partners including the World Bank and the Gates Foundation.
