Abuja, Nigeria – The upcoming 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT) women's amateur golf championship, scheduled to be held in Abuja from November 2 to 7, is set to be more than just a sporting event. Nigeria is leveraging this continental gathering to attract significant investment, foster business partnerships, and promote Abuja as a premier destination for golf tourism.

Organizers are planning a parallel Business and Economic Summit to coincide with the championship. This summit will serve as a crucial platform for entrepreneurs, businesses, and investors to explore collaborative opportunities and drive economic growth across the continent. Maryam Shehu, chairperson of the Government and Stakeholders Relations Committee for AACT Nigeria 2026, highlighted that the summit aims to complement the sporting activities by facilitating discussions on investment, trade, tourism, and economic cooperation, thereby connecting participants with potential business partners.

The AACT championship is expected to draw golfers, officials, administrators, and stakeholders from approximately 30 African nations, creating a unique environment for engagement beyond the greens. The event's slogan, “Uniting Africa through the Greens,” encapsulates the ambition to strengthen continental relationships and promote cooperation through the sport of golf.

Beyond the tournament itself, the AACT presents a significant economic opportunity for Abuja's hospitality and tourism sectors. Visitors will have the chance to experience the city's offerings, potentially building relationships that extend far beyond the championship dates. The summit is also intended to explore how sports can be a catalyst for economic development by drawing investment and encouraging stronger commercial ties between African countries.

Nigeria's commitment to hosting a world-class event is underscored by a projected budget of ₦547 million for the AACT and the subsequent Nigeria Ladies' Open Championship. Preparations are in advanced stages, with meticulous attention being paid to security, transportation, accommodation, and medical services to ensure a seamless experience for all participants. The Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN) is working closely with government institutions and corporate partners to ensure the event's success and its contribution to Nigeria's standing as a capable host of major international competitions.

Adding to the event's significance, Nigeria's First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has been decorated as the Grand Patron of the 2026 AACT. Her involvement signifies national support and highlights the importance placed on promoting women's golf and sports development in the country.

The AACT Nigeria 2026 is poised to be a landmark event, showcasing sporting excellence while simultaneously serving as a powerful engine for economic engagement and collaboration across Africa.
