The Nigerian film industry is in mourning following the sudden death of veteran Nollywood actor and producer, Solomon Akiyesi. The 66-year-old actor reportedly passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, April 26, 2026, in Abuja.

Details emerging from the family, as relayed by the National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Abubakar Yakubu, indicate that Akiyesi complained of sharp chest pains the night before his death. He was subsequently taken to a hospital where he was diagnosed with an ulcer and prescribed medication. Upon returning home to rest, he went to bed but did not wake up the following morning. His wife discovered his unresponsive body around 4 a.m. on Monday.

A native of Ososo in Edo State, Akiyesi began his acting career in the late 1990s and featured in over 100 films. He was known for his versatility and dedication to his craft, earning recognition as both an actor and producer. Colleagues and fans have taken to social media to pay tribute, remembering him as a lively, energetic, and dedicated performer who brought joy to the sets he worked on.

His remains have been deposited in a morgue in Abuja, and the Actors Guild of Nigeria is awaiting further details and directives from the family regarding funeral arrangements.
